Brian Hoyer Refuses COVID Vaccine, Risks Roster Spot

This is only the beginning of the NFL and COVID Vaccine dilemma that is already unfolding this summer. So, I am going to lay out my argument on the matter now so people know where I stand. I have the vaccine. I was able to get it early because of my occupation. I had my fears but felt it was the right thing to do. I’m happy that I got it and have enjoyed life tremendously as the world has opened back up.
I also understand people’s concerns about the long term effects of the vaccine. I am no scientist. I trust that these vaccines aren’t hurtful, but I don’t know for sure. But, I would rather risk dealing with the potential of long term effects of the shot than risk getting COVID, which is far more likely to damage my body, or others I could pass it to, than the vaccine.

It makes sense that teams will rather sign a vaccinated player than an unvaccinated one. The NFL isn’t going to allow teams to make up games. The players will lose money if games are forfeited. Unvaccinated players come with a risk.
Brian Hoyer does not have a guaranteed spot on this team. I doubt he’d be on the 53 regardless of COVID factors. I don’t see any scenario when Hoyer earns a spot on the 53 with the quarterbacks they currently have. Belichick has been consistent with following the leagues’s COVID guidelines. The team recently “parted ways” with their offensive line coach, Cole Popovich, because of the NFL’s updated policy regarding the COVID vaccine.

Hoyer has been praised by Belichick before for his contributions to game prep, specifically before Super Bowl LIII. But, coaches are paid to prepare the teams. Players are paid to play and win. Hoyer did not prove that he could do that last year. The team was desperate for a consistent quarterback, and Hoyer could not provide that. Now he refuses to get the vaccine? He has the right to make his own choices, but the team also has the right to let him go if they believe he is a safety threat. I wouldn’t expect Hoyer to be around for long if he stands his ground.
