There’s Nothing Impressive about the LeBron & Bronny James Moment Last Night

I genuinely feel bad for Bronny James. I’ve never found myself rooting for LeBron (Boston til I die) but the pressure he’s put on his son is so unfair that I want Bronny to succeed. I just don’t see it happening.

The hype around Bronny would make one think his talent is on the level of Cooper Flagg, Zion Williamson and Luka Doncic; guys who were deserving of the hype leading up to the draft. The fact that he averaged less than 5 PPG in his only season at USC seems to get lost in the conversation. Bronny suffered cardiac arrest as a result of a congenital heart defect in the 2023 preseason with USC. Thankfully, he was able to return to the court, but LeBron ignored any consideration that his son may need more time to develop. He just wanted his moment.

But alas, the moment came. The eight other players on the court and fans watching everywhere knew it was garbage, but LeBron stans ran with it like a king announcing his heir to the throne. Yet Bronny is no Jon Snow. If anything, he’s the NBA’s Joffrey Baratheon.

So no, there’s nothing impressive about a player bullying his employer to hire his kid, and even threatening other teams who considered drafting him, just so that they can get a moment they don’t deserve. Bronny won’t see any real minutes for who knows how long. He may never see them without LeBron’s influence. And to try to compare it to the Griffey family is a disgrace to the opportunities they earned and the success they worked for.
